This update addresses several performance issues. This does not include the fixed columns. I expect to have that done next.

I have included a minified js of the plugin which brings it down to 4kb.

I have a new release in testing right now. This release addresses performance issues. I’ve been testing with 1000+ rows of data with 8+ columns. There are significant load time reductions. Keep checking back for a release in the coming days.

I’ve been absent from working on the project for some time but I am now back on it and working at full force.

I am temporarily putting on hold any new feature development and focusing on this next release to address performance issues when working with lots of data. There have been some issues reported when working with 1000’s of rows of data and slow performance so I will be using that as a test case.

Please keep the comments and feature ideas coming, I do actively read them and make note of what issues need to be addressed.

More Development Progress in the Coming Week

I’ve had to put a hold on further developing the plugin due to other projects keeping me busy. I am happy to announce that I am back working on the plugin. Thanks for all the comments, feedback, and feature suggestions. I will do my best to incorporate most of them into this release.

Fixed Columns demo live! (Microsoft Excel like tables)

I have setup a live demo for fixed columns. It isn’t 100% ready for release. A few issues that are currently being worked on are auto-resizing the table with the browser window, styling the fixed column, and adding a fixed footer.

Due to some other projects, releasing v1.1 has been delayed. Expect a release for this coming weekend (Oct16th-17th).

I made good progress this weekend on v1.1

I have added the ability to freeze/fix the first column. If you have enough columns that horizontal scrolling is required then the first column, header, and footer will be fixed.

I am working out a few bugs and testing in all supported browsers. Hoping to have a release in the next day or two at the very latest.

Some new features going in today:

Option to auto scale the table with the browser window. If you want your table to scale with its parent div enable autoResize:true and be sure you are allowing your parent div to scale with the window. Either by giving it a width and height of 100% or with javascript. Works both ways.
Side scrolling. If the columns reach their minimum size and they are still not all visible in the view, the table adds a horizontal scroll bar that will scroll both the fixed header and the body. When scrolling vertically the header remains fixed. If there is an optional cloned footer that will also scroll. If you are using your own footer for pagination or the likes then it remains stationary.

I’ve also fixed a bug where really tiny tables had an issue with the borders for columns being off by 1 px.

Expect this to be posted both here and at jQuery Plugins later today.
